Technology’s Response to the COVID-19 Pandemic

Just as the COVID-19 pandemic changed everyday life in multiple and dramatic ways, so too has its impact on the tech industry been profound:
  • Several major cloud vendors developed new applications to help businesses manage everything from the health and safety of employees to the arduous process of returning to very different workplace environments
  • Like other industries, the cloud business had to master the art of “hands-free” selling, fulfillment and support. Since part of the promise of the cloud has been the opportunity to simply rent the capability of IT without having to own it or have physical objects on-premises, this has gone fairly well.
  • The pace of change, always rapid in the tech industry, has been absolutely blistering since mid-March as business customers have had to greatly accelerate their digital transformations.
In a recent earnings call, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella said, “We have seen two years’ worth of digital transformation in two months.”
